On Thursday, November 6, 2008 President George W. Bush, with First Lady Laura Bush and Vice President and Mrs. Cheney beside him, addressed his entire staff on the South Lawn of the White House.  He spoke to them of the transition that is about to take place, and of theinevible loss of their jobs and new beginning for President-elect Obama.
When you are the President of the United State of America you (and your staff) must be prepared to move on.
The people on this lawn represent diverse backgrounds, talents, and experiences. Yet we all share a steadfast devotion to the United States. We believe that service to our fellow citizens is a noble calling — and the privilege of a lifetime.

President George W. Bush reaches out to staff members of the Executive Office of the President Thursday,
Nov. 6, 2008, after speaking to them on the upcoming presidential transition. The President was joined by
his Cabinet, Vice President and Mrs. Cheney and Mrs. Laura Bush as he told his staff, “As January 20th
draws near, some of you may be anxious about finding a new job, or a new place to live… But between now
and then, we must keep our attention on the task at hand — because the American people expect no less.”

President George W. Bush embraces an employee of the Executive Office of the President Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008,
after delivering remarks to his staff on the upcoming transition. Said the President, “…Over the next 75 days, all of
us must ensure that the next President and his team can hit the ground running.’ White House photo by Eric Draper

President Bush Discusses the Transition with Employees of the Executive Office of the President:

“As January 20th draws near, some of you may be anxious about finding a new job, or a new place to live. I know how you feel. (Laughter.) But between now and then, we must keep our attention on the task at hand — because the American people expect no less. Earlier this year, I promised that I would sprint to the finish. I am keeping that promise, and I know I have given some of you a good workout along the way. As we head into this final stretch, I ask you to remain focused on the goals ahead. I will be honored to stand with you at the finish line. May God bless you.”

Mayor Taylor introduces his Veto; Alderman Olson responds, Alderman Skowronski makes a Motion to Table
10:00
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
#2
Alderman Wilhelm makes her opinion known in favor of non-profits and gives her prepared speech and is in favor of Tabling
4:00
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
#3

Alderman Sohns mentions the fees are not revenue generated and also rejects the idea of “soft costs,”  discusses tax pledge; Alderman Taylor mentions numerous emails he received, how he takes offense to some of them from one group, brings up the fact that city staff is always working hard, City Attorney clarifies motion…Alderman Taylor says he will override Veto and rejects Motion to Table.
6:46
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
#4
Alderman Solomon speaks of emails he also received.  He, too, brings up the fact that there are no soft costs, and breaks some of the costs down.  Alderman Olson mentions some of his emails said the Alderman are anti-volunteer, and that is not true.  Alderman Skowronski again wants to table this and says this is the first time people are hearing about it…Alderman Taylor says again, it is illegal…override the Veto.
8:00
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
#5

I won’t even explain this section of the tape…sometimes it’s better to not say anything.
I will say though, that twice during the night the Mayor says he believes he knows how the vote is going to go before it is taken….I can’t believe he even goes there.
6:33
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
#6
A long discussion regarding the Alderman Skowronski motion…and the order he made the motion….then the vote is taken..after the Mayor says “my Veto probably has four votes to override,” and then Alderman Sohns unofficially flip-flops (even the Mayor had the inclination he was voting No…)  On this Council you don’t necessarily vote the way you believe your constituents would want you to vote.  At the last minute you change your mind because someone throws out a motion and you admit you want to see other people work on it…Go figure.
So there you have it…Veto stands…with an immediate discussion on how to deal with it because fee waivers are “illegal.”  Just another day in Franklin.
Oh, and feel free to make violations…the Mayor and Alderman Sohns think it’s fine.  You just heard it.
The Arctic may hold 90 billion barrels of oil, more than all the known reserves of Nigeria, Kazakhstan and Mexico combined, and enough to supply U.S. demand for 12 years, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
