A Rose Is A Rose Is A Rose Is A Tournament Of Roses Parade Float

By Righty

It’s artwork!

It’s natural.

And oh, so time consuming.

“It’s getting close to the time when floats in the Tournament of Roses parade need to look their best. It all happens with the help of students, willing to dip their hands in glue and press flowers and vegetation onto the sides of floats. Associated Press”

So Did You Make A Pledge? And Did You Keep It?

By Righty

Last January after President Obama’s election, a group of celebrities got together and made a “pledge” to be “servants” to their president.  They pledged, and they pledged, and they pledged….

Some questioned why the celebrities couldn’t make some of these pledges before Obama was elected.  Come on, he isn’t the first President of the United States who has called upon Americans to come forward.  That’s still a mystery.  Anyway, they asked you, us, anybody…what will you pledge?  Did you make a pledge?  Did you keep it?

I heard all of this jubilation.  I heard of all of this hope and change spewed in speech and song.  But I am so, so sorry.  I don’t see it happening.  Life has gone on.

I have a liberal friend who supported Obama and told me he would not let Obama get by without calling him out when he disagreed with him.  I haven’t heard a word.  Not a word.  As more troops are being sent to Afghanistan, and we have terrorist attacks, my anti-war friend has been silent …at least about Obama.

I have another liberal friend who questions if he should say a prayer for an over-the-top conservative who is ill because most likely the guy wouldn’t encourage people to do the same for Obama if he was ill.  First of all, the conservative isn’t asking for his prayer….but the thought that this would even enter a person’s mind baffles me.

Then there is a local conservative who has nothing to do with the hope and change or pledge, but calls his fellow citizens who attend public meetings “brain dead.”  I mean, if this was a kinder America.  Hopeless

I watch and I wonder.  Are we looking out for each other?

A slight 1001 citizens across the nation were polled and 82% feel after this dismal year that things may improve in 2010.  Really?

Well Happy New Year.  Let’s hope for change…again.

Federal Transportation Officers, The Union, And Obama

By Righty

Do we really want to put any Americans at risk of terrorist attack over unionization of TSA employees? A union is there to protect the employee. If you have ever been in a union you can’t deny the possibility of conflicts arising out of this. Admit it. Just take the emotion out of it and admit it.

from WorldNetDaily -

President Obama’s nominee to head the Transportation Security Administration previously boasted to a major union that he looked forward to “joining” with them to add value to TSA security, WND has learned.

In Senate hearings, nominee Erroll Southers has avoided giving a “yes” or “no” answer over whether he would unionize airport security workers. Unions across the U.S., however, have been lobbying hard for Southers’ confirmation.

[...]

DeMint sent a letter to Southers demanding an answer over whether he will unionize the TSA.

“The safety and security of the American people are far too important to be controlled by union bosses,” DeMint wrote. “It’s time for Mr. Southers to give an unequivocal answer: Will he give union bosses control over the safety of Americans at our airports, yes or no?”

Are You A Fan Of “Lost?”

By Righty

Season 6 of Lost, the final season, will begin February 2, 2010.    While I look forward to the show starting up again, there are just too many questions to be answered, and I’m afraid this show, which I’ve been a fan of from day one, might disappoint me because it has been decided to end it while the time is right, rather than when it is time to end.  Perhaps there would never be an appropriate time to end the show as there might not have been an entire storyline in the first place.  Maybe it was just written as it went along.  Who knows?  When it’s done we could find that out.  There have been a lot of theories over the years.  That’s been part of the fun of the show.

The mysteries never cease …and run full circle…

LOCKE TEACHES WALT HOW TO PLAY BACKGAMMON

Episode: Pilot

Just watch it. In retrospect, perhaps one of the most important scenes in the Lost saga. The ”older than Jesus Christ” line evokes mythic themes that are timeless and universal. The discussion of dice made of bones chills me to the bone: If we think of Jacob and MIB as gods playing a grand game, then what are the castaways to them but dice made of bone to be rolled or pieces to be moved. The line ”You’re having a bad month” makes me laugh — and the line ”Do you want to know a secret” just chills me. Amazing that Lost is a show that can do both those things in the span of a two-minute scene. Watch. Study. Enjoy.

“Happy Holidays!” From Barack Obama and the OFA

By Righty

Don’t you have some real work to do?

Any more surprises like Amending Executive Order 12425 ?  We’re still waiting to see what that’s all about and what it will lead to next.  Did you really know what you were signing?  Or does your administration just hold out papers and you sign anything?  You really have to wonder.

from Threatswatch.org -

Ultimately, a detailed verbal explanation is due the American public from the President of the United States detailing why an international law enforcement arm assisting a court we are not a signatory to has been elevated above our Constitution upon our soil.

What To Do With Your After-Christmas

By Righty

I don’t know about your schedule, but my garbage pick-up was on Christmas Eve day.  That included my recyclables pick-up, which is every other week.  Luckily, I convinced my husband to make a trip to get rid of my Christmas refuse on December 26th (he said there were quite a few other people with the same idea).  After having 25 relatives at my home, I couldn’t wait an entire week.  Had I seen Wired’s article on recycling, I might have had second thoughts about a few of the items I sent on their way.  And I’m almost wishing I had actually received a fruitcake this year!  I have a sister that received two…but she ate them.

For all the joy of Christmas morning, there’s certainly a lot of waste involved. Reams of wrapping paper, forests of evergreens and piles of unwanted fruitcakes are discarded after the holidays. That got us thinking: Wouldn’t it be great if some of that trash could be repurposed as fuel?

[...]

We’ll get to that in a moment. But first on our list is fruitcake. They certainly aren’t edible, and they’ll take about a million years to biodegrade, so what the hell are we supposed to do with them? The answer is simple.

Biofuel.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab Charged As U.S. Investigates al Qaeda Involvement

By Righty

from Reuters -

Presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs, appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” also said the White House is reviewing U.S. security watch list policy.

The U.S. government created a record of 23-year-old Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab last month in the intelligence community’s central repository of information on known and suspected international terrorists, a U.S. official said on Saturday. But there was not enough negative data to put him on a “no-fly” list, the official said.

Behold The Universe

By Righty

The Known Universe takes viewers from the Himalayas through our atmosphere and the inky black of space to the afterglow of the Big Bang. Every star, planet, and quasar seen in the film is possible because of the world’s most complete four-dimensional map of the universe, the Digital Universe Atlas that is maintained and updated by astrophysicists at the American Museum of Natural History. The new film, created by the Museum, is part of an exhibition, Visions of the Cosmos: From the Milky Ocean to an Evolving Universe, at the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan through May 2010.

This film sometimes elicits very strong emotions from people.

Are you moved?

Science, religion, life..there must be life out there, right?

At the very least – a beautiful video.
