Go Buy Some Mukluks, a Muff and Practice Saying…Brrrr
Why?
‘Cause, it’s gonna get cold outside…
What’s that you say? Cold? But what about global warming and climate change and all of that jazz? What about the United Nations? They said it was doom and gloom and we were headed toward the end of the world. What about the ice sheets? What about polar bears? What about penguins? What about…what about…
Hey, just what the hell is going on here? Why do we need to go out and get mukluk boots and muffs and practice saying brrr? Why?
I’ll tell you why!
Addressing the Washington Policymakers in Seattle, WA, Dr. Don Easterbrook said that shifting of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) from its warm mode to its cool mode virtually assures global cooling for the next 25-30 years and means that the global warming of the past 30 years is over. The announcement by NASA that the (PDO) had shifted from its warm mode to its cool mode is right on schedule as predicted by past climate and PDO changes (Easterbrook, 2001, 2006, 2007) and is not an oddity superimposed upon and masking the predicted severe warming by the IPCC. This has significant implications for the future and indicates that the IPCC climate models were wrong in their prediction of global temperatures soaring 1F per decade for the rest of the century.
Larger Pacific Climate Event Helps Current La Niña Linger
April 1, 2008
This La Niña, which has persisted for the past year, is indicated by the blue area in the center of the image along the equator. Blue indicates lower than normal sea level (cold water). The data were gathered in early April.
The image also shows that this La Niña is occurring within the context of a larger climate event, the early stages of a cool phase of the basin-wide Pacific Decadal Oscillation. The Pacific Decadal Oscillation is a long-term fluctuation of the Pacific Ocean that waxes and wanes between cool and warm phases approximately every five to 20 years. In the cool phase, higher than normal sea-surface heights caused by warm water form a horseshoe pattern that connects the north, west and southern Pacific, with cool water in the middle. During most of the 1980s and 1990s, the Pacific was locked in the oscillation’s warm phase, during which these warm and cool regions are reversed.

So that snow we had this past winter…and the late spring….we should plan for more of that next winter. I can’t wait! I always like it better when it’s cooler…It’s always easier to bundle up to get warmer, but you can only do so much to get cool. Plus, I’m tired of all of the bitching and moaning about global warming.
I wonder how long it will be before we will hear a legitimate reversal of opinion regarding this. In the meantime, with fuel costs so high, you might want to stock up on your firewood. It’s never too early to plan ahead!
